Friday Five 7/23: Natural Remedies for Sleep

If I had to choose one non-negotiable when it comes to my wellness habits, it is 100% SLEEP!!

It all starts with sleep. Without good quality sleep, our bodies do not function at their best. Poor sleep leads to weight gain, dementia, and many chronic illnesses. It even impacts our skin!

Most of my clients find that once they are able to create good sleep habits, reaching their health goals becomes much easier.

Here are a FIVE natural remedies for getting a good night's sleep every night.

I absolutely love this tea! I brew a cup every night. Ashwagandha is an ancient medical herb. As an adaptation it helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Drinking a cup before bed allows your mind and body to naturally relax. This is my favorite one.

Lavender oil also helps your body and mind to relax via the olfactory sense. It reduces anxiety, depression, and insomnia. I like to either put a few drops into my diffuser, or rub a little on the temples of my wrists. The smell is amazing. This is the one that I use.

While I do not support using melatonin supplements daily, it is a great tool when you are traveling and sleeping in a different location. This brand is amazing as it is completely pure and has elderberries for immune support as well. Bonus, its great for kids and adults. One serving will knock you right out. (use sparingly)

When I wake up in the middle of the night…

Even with great sleeping habits, hormones and such can often disrupt our sleep. I have two natural supplements that help me fall asleep should I wake before the roosters. They are completely natural, and non-habit forming.

Created by Standard Process, Min Tran contains mineral complexes to support emotional balance. Supports a healthy nervous system and helps to ease the effect of temporary stress. Things that keep us up at night.

If I find myself over thinking things, regardless of how much journaling I did that night, these help me calm down and fall asleep. They are also a good option for that 3am wake up as well.

** these are products that I use. I am not prescribing. I recommend consulting with your physician before taking any supplements or medication"
